Margaretha Clement (2000) was born into a musical family in Middelburg, The Netherlands. From a young age, she had a passion for reading, writing, experimenting in the kitchen, being outdoors – and music. This remained unchanged when she grew older.
The piano caught her attention at the age of four, and she received her first piano lessons from Karin de Boef. Until the age of 17, she was taught by Joop Albracht and his successor Reineke Broekhans at the then called ‘Junior Academy’ of University College Roosevelt in Middelburg.
In 2017, Margaretha became a prize winner of the Eastman Concours in Zeeland. From the same year onwards, she continued her lessons with Australian pianist Geoffrey Madge. After obtaining her VWO diploma in 2018, she continued her studies at University College Roosevelt (UCR) – the Honour’s College of Utrecht University in Middelburg – with a specialisation in piano and musicology. In 2020, she was admitted to the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. There, she continued her piano studies with Ellen Corver, while simultaneously completing her final year at UCR. In 2021, she graduated summa cum laude from UCR. In 2022, she was admitted to the internship at Piano LAB in Belgium. Here, she received intensive coaching from Mateusz Borowiak, Jura Margulis, Vitaly Samoshko, Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort, and Shai Wosner. She took further Master classes with, amongst others, Klára Würtz, Geoffrey Madge, Eliso Virsaladze, and Lera Auerbach. In 2024, Margaretha published an article on Gerhard Hamm in the Tijdschrift van de Koninklijke Vereniging voor Nederlandse Muziekgeschiedenis (TVNM).
Margaretha gives solo recitals as well as chamber music concerts. She performed as a piano duo with Mieke Verduijn-Glasbergen, and as a Lied duo with soprano Katarina Viktoria Braathén. Margaretha also teaches piano to students of various ages. In recent years, she developed a special interest for the lesser-known piano repertoire from the 19th and 20th century, as well as for composition. She regularly plays some of her own pieces in concerts.
Currently, Margaretha studies with David Kuyken. Beyond her piano career, she enjoys working out, creating healthy recipes, reading, writing, and being surrounded by her loved ones. She also works as a model.
